My boyfiend and i stayed at the Neptun Beach from 21-28 Sept 2008. The hotels location was very good easy 5min walk to the centre, as was the view from our sea view balcony. The room and bathroom was a generous size and clean on arrival. However I did not find the housekeeping service to be as good as the Hotel Nobel we stayed in 2 years previuos. They only seemed to empty bins, make bed and hang up towels. We were given fresh towels once during our 1 week stay and only the toliet was cleaned during our stay not the shower/sink or floors. The rest of the hotel was very clean.
The hotel food was typical Sunny Beach Hotel food, not that great. At breakfast there is the same everyday which is plenty of fresh fruit, pastries, bread, jam, and strange cold meat and strange cheese but it was edible. However the hot breakfast options consisted of very greasy sausage/strips of bacon and very undercooked eggs. There was sometimes crepe's which were nice if you got one while they were still warm if not they were rubbery. I usually had banana on toast which was the safest option. Evening meals were slightly better there was several meat options but these would often be very greasy. Basic pasta was there most evevining and chips/rice appeared several times a week, lots of nice looking deserts but most had little taste. We eat out most nights.
I found the dining room staff were very busy and not very friendly apart from the girl welcoming you on the dining room door. They can be very rude and we were mostly finished our dinner before we could be served with a drink. There was no free water/juice available in the evening meal service.
I had a safety deposit box which was located a room next to the hotel reception area it cost £10 for the week. To get access you needed a specific member of staff to take you in and open the box with a combination of your and their key. This became annoying when the member of staff allocated to the safe was not there, reception would ignore you and wouldn't offer any information regarding when the person would be back. This meant you could be hanging around for a while waiting and receive no apology or even a smile when they arrived.
Overall I felt the hotel was ok which was mainly down to its location and room view, however I felt the staff was its biggest let down as they were not friendly at all. The hotel is very popular with Germans, we met nor heard any other English/Scottish/Welsh people there.
Sunny beach is a great budget holiday as you can get a beer for around 40p-1.50 per pint and food is pretty cheap. The clothes are often a good buy but everything is very repetative throughout the stalls and markets. We had 3 sunny day which were lovely, 1.5 cloudy days and 2.5 days of heavy rain and wind were we really struggled for things to do, so I wouldn't reccommend 21st Sept + for a holiday.
