Hi, My wife and I are just back from Sunny Beach and stayed at the Grand Hotel which has the beach approx 20 yards from hotel pool area.
Luckily we missed the torrential rain and flooding that Sunny Beach had the previous 2 weeks. We were delayed on leaving Exeter because the plane could not leave Bulgaria on time due to the flooding of runways so did not arrive until about 6am on Sat morning. We stayed at the Grand Hotel, right on the beach. First impressions were very good, met by reception staff and porter took bags to room. The room was excellent with sea view and was cleaned expertly each day with new towels etc and we can not fault their staff for their cleanliness.
Meals were buffet style like most other places but we were given a wide selection of food with a mix of english and bulgarian dishes to try. We had no problems with the selection and the staff were polite and helpful if needed.
We were all inclusive which meant that all meals were available, including afternoon tea and cakes if wanted and drinks from the bar were available from 11am intil 11pm. There was no restriction on how many drinks of beer, wine, spirits, soft drinks or cocktails you could have as well as tea and coffee on request.
I highly recommend this hotel for travellers of all age groups and would go there again without hesitation.
On the coach back to the airport we did hear lots of complaints about the standard of food at the Globus and Iberostar hotels so think we were lucky in our choice.
We did not see any drunks or thefts taking place in the places we visited and only about 6 beggars in 8 days. Bulgaria is a beautiful place and Khan's Tent is a must for an excellent eveing out.
